Sometimes life is hard.
Maybe you’re going through a change or feeling overwhelmed. Maybe you’re wondering how your relationships could be different. Maybe you’ve lost your creative spark. Maybe you wish others understood the complexity and nuances of your inner life.
Maybe it feels like no one gets it.
A relational approach
My name is Adrian McKerracher. I’m a Registered Psychotherapist trained at the Toronto Institute for Relational Psychotherapy, a rigorous, experiential psychodynamic three year program. I also have a PhD in Educational Studies from the University of British Columbia, and I’ve volunteered for three years at a Suicide Crisis Line. As a former academic and a practicing artist, my approach to therapy is creative, thoughtful, and focused on your potential.
I work with anxiety, depression, trauma, creative burnout, AI vertigo, life transitions, suicidality, terminal illness and fear of dying, among other experiences. I specialize in working with people who feel alone with a sense that there is more to life than this. I love this work because I get to help people explore the most important questions of their lives.
My practice is licensed and regulated by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). I abide by their code of ethics, including rules for confidentiality and conduct. I’m a member of the Canadian Association for Psychodynamic Therapy (CAPT), and I’m part of a network of therapist colleagues in Toronto and beyond.
My work also expands on my experience in art and literature. I’ve written a book about how we learn from metaphors, won prizes and grants for literary fiction, and I maintain my own creative practices in writing and drawing. I’m interested to hear what writing and art mean to you, and how they fit into your life—or how they could.
I have lived or worked in a lot of places: Argentina, Cuba, Chile, Sierra Leone, Uganda, and Bosnia, as well as Quebec, Ontario, the Maritimes, and BC. I have a deep respect for the complexity of being an outsider in another culture, community, or language.
You are not alone.
Email to set up a consultation. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
